Skin and Bones

SKIN AND BONES

A sketch derived from conversations with a poet/artist on love.

- loving someone's bones

The idea that the skeleton is taking skin from the girl and that she is taking bones from the skeleton. The things they each individually don't have. And that they can become one person/whole through this exchange.

Treehouse

TREEHOUSE

Illustrations for a poem by Daniel Arco

I'm going to build a treehouse, a treehouse out of dreams
There I'll stay and I'll live
What will remain to live
I'll share my address with David and Sally from school
It will be a paper with an arrow endlessly pointing up

I'm going to live so high up a tree the sky will be my ceiling
And when I look down I'll fell no fear but glee
Because the clouds will be stepping stones and the ground I'll step on.

And I'll hang my clothes on the stars
When I need to be chased I'll tease
And the wind will come chasing after me

When I'm tired and restless and in need of good sleep
The moon will be sleeping right next to me
The rain will be fair and make a deal with the sun
to dry and strengthen the wood

And if I can then I will
I'll move with my new home
slightly higher and higher
And from up there when I look down below
All I will see is time vanishing and turning into smoke

Time will never catch up to me
and no matter when it will be...
If it's when I'm 8. 18 or 80
I will die young

The years will bring different Winters and Springs
And I'll make up the headlines
and I'll turn them into silver linings
But for now
I'm going to nail some boards down
And I'll start building in my sleep

An Irish Airman Foresees His Death

An Irish Airman Foresees His Death

W. B. Yeats1865 - 1939

I know that I shall meet my fate
Somewhere among the clouds above;
Those that I fight I do not hate
Those that I guard I do not love;
My country is Kiltartan Cross,
My countrymen Kiltartan’s poor,
No likely end could bring them loss
Or leave them happier than before.
Nor law, nor duty bade me fight,
Nor public man, nor cheering crowds,
A lonely impulse of delight
Drove to this tumult in the clouds;
I balanced all, brought all to mind,
The years to come seemed waste of breath,
A waste of breath the years behind
In balance with this life, this death.

The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance

THE UNEXPECTED VIRTUE OF IGNORANCE

"You always do that! You mistake admiration for love"

“what kind of a revolution is it that just throws out big words that working class people can’t understand?...That’s what I believe, and that’s why I ask questions. Am I right, or what?” (p235).

Factions

FACTIONS

Why do you have all four factions (tattooed) on your back?
Because I don't want to be just one thing. I want to be kind, selfless, brave and honest and smart.

Dickens

DICKENS

You have not learnt to control your passions. You are too unruly. We will have to begin again and this time you will learn.
What is beauty? A destroyer.
What is happiness? Deception
What is love? Death.
(Great Expectations)
