Camp Morty Arts, Videos &Crafts

CAMP MORTY ARTS, VIDEOS & CRAFTS

I worked as an Arts Teacher/Drama Expert at a camp in New York during Summer 2014. For privacy reasons I am not allowed to show any of the music videos I made with the children. However I can show some stills, photographs and arts and crafts that they created.

Each film began with a group of campers and a concept, brain storming ideas and putting them down on paper followed by allocating roles such as director, camera man/woman, actors. Everyone helped contribute to the story. We then went out to various locations around camp and shot the footage we had planned to get. I then edited it together and each video was displayed at the end of the week for the whole camp to see. I made 20 films in total alongside many different groups of campers, mostly teenagers.

Films

Still from 'Frozen' sing along video
Still from a Horror Movie Trailer made at the abandoned Camp facilities next to our functioning camp.

Still from a Stop Motion film, which followed Alan as his bed moved all the way from his cabin to the waterfront by itself while he slept in it.
Still from news cast 'Kids Take Over Camp' video

Still from 'Blair Witch' style video

Still from the end of camp video featuring all staff members explaining how they do their job at camp.
Still from a film about a man who must save three people before the devil takes his soul. Played completely backwards.
Still from 'On Top Of The World', a film made by the oldest boys and girls that featured them journeying up to a place called the Over Look which overlooks the whole of Westchester County Park'. They face barriers on their way up, in the shape and form of insecurity, fear, anger, burden etc.
Still from a time lapse film of the group 7 boys creating graffiti art.

Still from a Silent Movie style film

Still from a Green Screen video to Katy Perry's 'Roar'
Still form a Superhero Film, where groups would storyboard a superhero situation and then create props and costumes before filming.
Still from a film made to the song 'Baz Sunscreen Sunscreen Song'. Groups were assigned different verses of the song and asked to conceptualise a piece of film to go alongside it. We then filmed. The still is of a staff member removing her make-up which goes alongside the verse 'Do not read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly'
Still from a film about what this group of campers would do if they were told they had 2 minutes left to live. Each one is filmed as he fulfils his last wish. Video below:

Still from a film of the group 9 boys creating rhythm using pencils, brooms, newspapers and pencils to create sound and beat.
Still from a film made by the youngest boys and girls who made Under the Sea inspired outfits and performed a dance at the waterfront to The Little Mermaid's 'Under the Sea'.
Still from a film made by the second youngest groups who made Lion King outfits and performed scenes from the movie in front of the camera.
Photography

Group 8 Girls created a photography project by brainstorming themes and concepts, going out and creating shots, then editing the photos using iphoto.

Murals

From a quote in Alice in Wonderland, "We're All Mad Here".

Taking the theme of 'Stories' and rolling with it! This mural was created by three different groups of teenage girls over three weeks. Each person chose and painted a character they felt a special connection with. You can see Merida from 'Brave; Alice, the Cheshire Cat and the Rabbit form 'Alice in Wonderland'; Ariel and Flounder from 'The Little Mermaid'; Rapunzel from 'Tangled'; Wonder Woman; Tiana from 'The Princess and the Frog'; Minnie Mouse; Hello Kitty; Mulan and Olaf from 'Frozen'.

This piece of work was created by the second oldest girls by splatting paint at the piece of canvas.

These murals was created by the teen boys using spray paint.

This long mural was made by the junior camp during an evening program. Each person was asked to draw/paint their hand print and draw their counsellor.
